Overview

Most fired heaters are designed to provide a specified temperature increase for the process. The heater specifications will include the type of process, the inlet and outlet temperatures, process flow rate, heat input, excess air, heater draft and the calculated efficiency. In part one of this two-part series, you will learn about burners and combustion with regard specifically to:

  • Increasing heater throughput as a normal course of action
  • Burner manufacturer and heater manufacturer consultation
  • Combustion air side and flue gas side review
  • Review of the NOx permit for the heater
  • How radiant and convection coils are impacted
  • Impacts to the overall process heat transfer
